The Top 6 Ways to Relieve Pain without Drugs (NSAIDs)

A shocking admission of the FDA was recently announced: NSAIDs such as Tylenol, ibuprofen (Motrin), and Aleve, etc) can cause heart attacks or strokes [1]. It’s widely known that these drugs — that you probably take — also cause:

  • Kidney injury
  • Easy bruising and bleeding
  • Digestive problems
  • Stomach upset
  • Heartburn
  • Ulcers
  • And Liver damage.

Ouch!

(NSAIDs stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or  help reduce pain, fever, and inflammation..but is it worth it?)

If that’s the “medicine,” I think I’d rather skip it.

But there’s good news!

Here are six ways to get rid of pain without NSAIDs:

  • CBD cream: You’ve likely heard about the miracles of CBD, or cannabidiol. CBD comes from the hemp plant – which is now 100% legal in all 50 US states with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. Hemp does not have the high-THC content that it’s cousin marijuana does. (THC is the compound that makes people feel ‘high.’) With CBD cream, you simply rub it on the achy joints or muscles and feel relief within minutes.
  • Gentle stretches: After I fractured my shoulder skiing, my doctor referred me to Rick Olderman for rehab. Rick’s way was different, in addition to looking at my shoulder, he looked at the way I sat, walked, and moved to better understand the issue.   • Turmeric: This ancient Indian spice, that brings the yellow to curry dishes, is a great, natural anti-inflammatory and pain reducer. The component of turmeric that helps you feel better is curcumin.
    • You can order turmeric online. I like to make a turmeric tea with turmeric, some spices, a splash of milk and stevia. (It helps me have a better night sleep as well.)
    • You can also blend turmeric with CBD to superpower both. Here’s a great formula for that.
  • Glucosamine: This is the natural compound found in cartilage – the cushion between your joints. The Mayo clinic says that glucosamine can bring pain relief for people with osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and spine. And that it can reduce pain for rheumatoid arthritis. [2] You can take various glucosamine pills. Here’s one that also combines glucosamine with other natural ingredients such as turmeric (listed above).
  • CBD tablets: We already mentioned CBD creams above, but taking it orally can bring more long-term relief. Some people like to take CBD tinctures, but to avoid taste issues, I love these CBD capsules.
  • Yoga: Yoga is a great exercise and stretching program that mixes together movements with breath control. It both stretches and strengthens muscles. Harvard Medical School reports several studies demonstrating the benefits of yoga for pain [3].

Armed with any of these 6 solutions for pain-relief, you should be able to get more relief – and avoid those nasty NSAIDs.
