Inflammaging - Healthy Living Association

Definition:

Inflammaging is a new term coined by scientists to describe the connection between inflammation and aging.

It’s the chronic, low-grade inflammation that increases as we age and causes most of the health problems we suffer as we get older.

For example, inflamed skin wrinkles more easily because inflammation breaks down collagen and elastin, which keep your skin looking young.

Even “sun damage” is actually inflammation because the UV rays activate your skin’s inflammatory response.

Bottom line:

Inflammaging is chronic low-grade inflammation that accelerates the aging process.

Examples of inflammaging in a sentence:

“Have you ever heard of inflammaging?”

“Apparently inflammaging is what causes wrinkles and age spots.”

“A friend told me inflammaging is what happens when plaque begins to form inside your arteries as you get older.”
