8 Tricks to Lose Fat Fast

Whether you’re slimming down for a big event like a class reunion, or looking to improve your overall health, most of us could stand to lose a few…to a lot of pounds.

Of course, diet and exercise play a big part of burning fat, and we’ll talk about that some in this article. But, there are also other “tricks” that can help you get rid of excess weight quickly.

Here are 8 Tricks to Lose Fat Fast:

  • Cut “whites”: You’ve likely heard of the Paleo diet, the Keto diet, the Mediterranean diet and many more. All of these diets have one thing in common – no “whites,” such as sugar, potatoes, rice, and anything made with wheat flour or most grains (breads, cakes, pastries, cereal chips, etc.) – all of these are “fast,” or refined carbs. For me, to stop eating refined carbs, I’ve found that “going cold turkey” for 3 days gets me through my cravings and then I’m smooth sailing for a month or two. I’ll chew some sugarless gum and try to drink lots of tea or decaf coffee to take my mind off of sugar and carbs during this 3 day window.
  • Eat more high-quality protein: Protein can makes you feel full, can make you less hungry, and can boost your metabolism (which means you’re burning more calories). Eating lower-calorie protein than high-calorie carbs can help you drop weight FAST. To get more protein easily, I drink this protein mix every morning mixed with two tablespoons of Greek yogurt, some fresh water, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. (Plus, it has other bonuses like veggies and it’s sweetened with Stevia for no extra calories!)
  • “Excrete” out the fat: We know that diet is responsible for 90% of weight loss. But there is one supercharger that you can easily add to your diet: probiotics. Probiotics are the good bacteria that live in your gut. By boosting their count, that can help your digestive system poop out more of the foods that make us fat. Here’s an article on how that works.
  • Get more sleep: Study after study says that more and better sleep helps you lose weight. One study shows a 33% increase in the chances that you’ll lose weight with a better night’s sleep [1]. And, another study of over 60,000 women concluded that those who slept fewer than 5 hours/night were more likely to gain weight than those that slept for over 7 hours/night [2]. Many people are finding that hemp extract (often called CBD) – which is now legal in the US with the passage of the 2018 US Farm bill – helps them finally get a great night’s sleep. But, you must get a high-quality CBD for it to work. I suggest this one.
  • Apple cider vinegar: This ‘miracle potion’ can help you feel more full, and many scientific studies show that it helps “reduce the glucose response to a carbohydrate load.” (which is also very helpful for diabetics) [3]. Even better, another study showed that by taking 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar per day helps you lose belly fat, body weight, and even reduce the size of the belt around your waist [4].
  • Get more active: We all know that by exercising, we’ll burn more calories, and hence shed those pounds. But, it’s easier said than done. I love to take this delicious sugar-free reds drink to get more veggies, but more importantly to give me the energy to go get some exercise!
  • Intermittent Fasting: This new trend is easy to start. Intermittent Fasting, or IF, is simply having a smaller “eating window” in the day. So instead of eating between breakfast at 7am and dinner at 7pm (a 12-hour eating window), you reduce your window to 8 hours..so, in this case, eat breakfast at 10am (3 hours later than normal) and move dinner up an hour to 6pm. There are many different styles of IF, but the goal is to let your body “fast” longer to help your liver clear out toxins, and to burn fat when you’re in a mild state of ketosis. Often, when having a smaller eating window, you end up eating less calories as well. Again, I drink lots of tea and decaf coffee in the morning to get through my hunger stage, and all in all I feel so much better with intermittent fasting.
  • Collagen: Collagen makes up 90% of our connective tissues and 70% of our skin. While our ancestors were able to eat much more collagen, we barely get any. But, if you can start taking collagen, you should feel more full [5]…and that will help you eat less. As a bonus, collagen is great for your skin, nails, and hair! Here’s my favorite kind.
